Currently I am a forth-year PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at Graduate Center, City University of New York, working with Professor Andrew Rosenberg and Professor Michael Mandel. My research interests focus on Multilingual Keyword Spotting, Prosody Analysis, Automatic Speech Recognition, etc. Here're my recent publications.
Ph.D. in Computer Science, August 2012–Present
City University of New York-Graduate Center, New York, United States
B.S. in Computer Science and Technology, September 2008–June 2012
Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing, China
Graduate Research Assistant, Advisor: Andrew Rosenberg
Speech Lab, Queens College, CUNY, August 2012–Present
Explore machine learning algorithms based on the language-independent features (e.g. word burstiness) or language-specific features (e.g. acoustic/prosodic features, morphological features, etc.) to develop multilingual spoken term detection system for low-resource languages.
Research Intern, Mentor: Kenneth Church
Speech Group, IBM Watson Research Center, NY; June 2014–August 2014
Participated in theWatson WEA Competitions: proposed a noval classification approach based on pseudo-relevance feedback; developed several effective strategies for confidence calibration, and ranked top 1 in log-loss metric in Competition 2.2 and 2.3.
Prosody Feature Development
Research Intern, Mentor: Keelan Evanini
Speech Group, Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ; June 2012–June 2013
Investigated the applications of pitch-contour in assessing the gender-specific nativeness of speakers based on a corpus of speech repeat utterances. We verified that F0 contour can be described fairly accurately by using only basic statistical variables and the first three orders of polynomial coefficients.
Speech Emotion Detection
Research Intern, Mentor: Keelan Evanini, Su-youn Yoon Speech Group, Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ; June 2012–June 2013
Developed a standard emotion detection capability and embedded it into multimodal emotion detection system for the structured video interview. We performed our evaluations using a Speech-based Emotion Recognition (SER) system, as well as an off-the-shelf facial expression analysis toolkit (FACET).
Research Intern, Mentor: Maosong Sun
State Key Lab of Intelligent Technology, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China; July 2011–June 2012
Applied topic model for keyword extraction from social media, accomplished Bachelor thesis: Online Labeled-LDA: a partially supervised topic model for keyword extraction from microblogs.
Rectification of Phonetic Degree
Undergraduate Research Assistant, Mentor: Zuguo He
Mathematical Innovation Lab, BUPT, Beijing, China; March 2009– June 2009
Investigated acoustic features to design comprehensive similarity measurement of phonogram; Employed K-mean dynamic clustering algorithm to generate refined Chinese phonogram chart for non-native learner.
Natural Language Understanding
Language Modeling Algorithm Group, Dragon Research, Nuance Communications,Inc., Burlington, June 2015–September 2015
1) Used topic model and k-means clustering to analyze USAA Live Listen Data;
2) Investigated Convolutional Neural Network models for Short Sentence task ;
3) Helped develop the module of Recurrent Neural Networks for Natural Neural Network Toolkit.
